Living in Alaska

Alaska has many outdoor activities available to nurses when they are not working. Most cannot be found anywhere else in the United States. The Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a spectacular astronomical sight to behold. Wildlife is in abundance; with bears, including polar bears along the coast, large elk, native bison and an estimated 30,000 bald eagles. Whales, including orcas inhabit the icy waters off Alaska and salmon are prevalent in the rivers and streams. Another source of fascinating natural beauty are the glaciers that have been in existence for millions of years.

Popular destinations include the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, the mighty Yukon River, Mount McKinley, the highest point in North America and the North Pole. There is a very large Native American Indian culture in Alaska and Sitka National Park is one of the attractions which include historic totem pole exhibits.
